Basically speaking the government will not give you a house just for the sake of giving you a house. Now they do have programs that help with the downpayment and closing costs. There are also organizations that will help you get a house but first you have to apply and if you are accepted you are going to have to put your sweat equity into the house. Now if your was a non-profit organization then you'd stand a better chance of getting property from the government at a low, reduced or free cost.
